here’s the latest Damnably Radio Podcast and it has a session & interview from new Damnably act Capt.Lovelace plus some live recordings from the Walpurgis Nacht festival, including the premiere of a new song from us we are calling ‘Hand bastard’ but check out those ‘These Estates’ songs-such an amazing band.
So, I eventually talked all of smallgang and Alex from Splintered Man into playing with me and Rama as ‘The Werewolves Of London’, a name inspired by the Warren Zevon song we all love.
This supergroup would be us all doing 100% improv with Pika☆ from Afrirampo/Acid Mothers Temple. I’d had the idea a while back when Simon smallgang said he was at a gig and there was a posse of cool looking Japanese Musicians that all knew each other and were part of this happening scene and he kind of wished he was part of something like that (which of course he is, but it’s not viewed as ‘conventionally cool’). Also in Japan there is a less wanky improv scene to that presently haunting London, so I thought we should have a go and it might just turn out more post punk sounding as we all do that in our bands.
Alex plays a Stratocaster via his new pedal board, Simon is on Jon One-Cats Bass, Toshi plays a Mini-Korg through his pedals, Matt is on a Laptop, Rama drums as does Pika and I play my normal Jazzmaster with Pedals. Damnably had put Pika’s first solo gig on in 2009, so I had seen then, she is an incredible drummer and force of nature as a creative entity. Check out her whole solo set here
Here is how it went down…

Yes, this was one of my ideas-Rama and George play as The Werewolves Of London along with Simon, Toshi, Matt from smallgang
and Alex of Splintered Man/Radiohead. It should be a 3 drum improv show with 2/3 guitars and bass + keys.
Pika of Afrirampo/Acid Mothers Temple will play solo composed music after from her new album.

All female Japanese cult trio Shonen Knife finish their 29 date European ‘Overdrive’ tour with one final London gig which is their 985th gig.
Formed in Osaka almost 33 years ago, the trio rose from humble DIY beginnings to touring with Nirvana on their ‘Nevermind’ tour, trailblazing a path for women in music and inspiring legions of bands. Championed by Nirvana, Sonic Youth and hailed as a favourite by the crème-de-la-crème of Alternative Rock, Shonen Knife remain one of the most influential and beloved of Japanese rock exports.
Live, they are a tight with machine-precision, punching out fast, highly exciting sets of Punk, Pop, Rock & Metal hits, all coated with their own distinctively quirky and life-affirming charm. As they fast approach their 1,000th gig, Shonen Knife's joy and invention shows no sign of fading. As Naoko says, “Let's Rock!”

Half-japanese London based trio fronted by two baritone voiced brothers that have been making a name for themselves with volcanic live shows exploding tight poppy post-punk with effortless complexity and crazed solo's. Last year the band toured the UK with Bored Spies (members of-Seam/Bitch Magnet/OWC) and just toured the UK with Shonen Knife and release their 3rd album ‘San’ on Damnably June 2nd. East London's post punk trio who've toured throughout the UK, Italy and Europe with Shonen Knife & Julie Doiron. Released their self-recorded Collapsar EP in 2013 that saw mostly 8/10 reviews on press aggregate and garnered radio love from Gideon Coe & Tom Ravenscroft on BBC 6 Music.
John Kennedy XFM Radio “FANTASTIC!”
Pocket Jury “The overall highlight is the fantastic ‘Blue Fugue’, which sounds like a collision between Frigid Stars era Codeine and Zuma era Crazy Horse"
Slowthrills “…subtle melodies delivered in an understated baritone vocal coupled with edgy, occasionally heavy guitars. The way the songs creep up on you and develop is reminiscent of that great, often overlooked band Silkworm.”
