Time distortion is an almost universal experience in hypnosis (see page 8) where people often greatly underestimate the time they have been in hypnosis (see also chapter 1). This can be a good indication of how deeply hypnotized they have been and could provide interesting audit data if enough therapists recorded it. The effect of time distortion can be utilized in analgesic techniques (see page 304) where the suggestion is given that the time of comfort seems much longer and the time when the patient experiences discomfort seems very much shorter.
